Ceiling and Interior Walls
Salvaged old growth fir from the Olympic peninsula from logs that were cut a century ago. While at the time they were too costly to yard out, JADE obtained this wood for a home on Whidbey. It has characteristic patches of purple coloration and white specks which make the appearance unique.

Ceiling Boards
Steam bent to achieve the curve in the roof.

Floor (and Legs)
Douglas Fir. From a tree that blew down in an intense storm in December, 2006.

Exterior Siding
Shou Sugi Ban Western Red Cedar for the exterior walls, and the ceiling of the space below the yurt.

Shingles
Western Red Cedar.

Windows
Lexan — lighter and more durable than glass.
The porthole in the center of the roof is finished with iridescent slumped glass made by a local artisan.

Finishes
Exterior — Shou Sugi Ban; legs - varnished; and interior finished with a natural penetrating hardwax oil.

Spire
Built with western red cedar lath and copper tubing, and topped with a blue glass ball made by Bob Adamson of Island Art Glass.

Fabricated by the amazing crew at Heavy Metal Works.

Lighting
LED strip light for ambiance and whim. It is built into the porthole in the floor. A remote device controls the color and brightness.
